Principal's Message
| |
As I write my article, I do so with very mixed feelings, as it is the last article I will be writing for the eBoletin. I am spending my last week as the Las Lomas Principal preparing for all of the graduation activities and reflecting on my career at Las Lomas. There is not adequate space in this column to express my thanks to the parents, students, staff, and Walnut Creek community for the incredible love and support given to me and my family over our 23 years at Las Lomas and 27 years in the Walnut Creek community. We came here as strangers with a 6 month old baby in 1981. You have been a tremendous support to Kathy and me as we raised our two boys (the 2nd born while I was the Activities Director), supported us through the loss of parents, as well as celebrating with us in the wedding of our oldest boy. You have celebrated with me as our students and school have received honors, academically, athletically, and personally. You have supported me when there have been issues that could have been destructive for the school by having faith in my leadership and decision-making abilities and have only given me words of encouragement instead of criticism. My family came to Las Lomas as strangers to the school and community. We leave Las Lomas with great friends and memories enough to last a lifetime! To the staff, parents, and students, I entrust our school to all of you. I know that the greatest days of Las Lomas are ahead, as you complete the accreditation process next year and chart the future of the school. I know that you will all give Matt Campbell the same respect and caring that you have given me. He is a lucky man, as there is no greater gift than being given the honor to lead Las Lomas High School!
This article is the last chance I will have to thank the members of the Class of 2010. As students you have led in a very positive manner. You leave the school a rich legacy as we look to the future. As parents, you've been a marvelous support system for your students and the school. I wish you all the best as you move on to new adventures. It will be very strange for me Friday night to proclaim you graduates, as I know I speak not only to you, but to myself! This article also gives me a chance to formally welcome the Class of 2014. You've heard me say already that you are coming to a special place. I invite all of you to become involved in your own ways as you begin to experience the very positive traditions that make Las Lomas the school that it is. While I will not be with you in person, I will be with you in spirit.
As is the custom, when August rolls around we will begin thinking about starting school again, which means everyone will need to verify addresses. I urge you all to come and do this early if at all possible and avoid that first line at TRI-S. Be watching for verification dates and times so you can beat the lines. The dates for TRI-S will be August 17th and 19th. More information will be forthcoming, but please get these dates on your calendar. Please be on the lookout for additional Principal's messages and mailings that will be coming to you regarding TRI-S procedures.
I wish you all a wonderful and relaxing summer vacation time with family. Thank you all again for making me the luckiest man in the world! I leave with wonderful feelings about the school and my career. Words cannot express the feelings I have for everyone at Las Lomas. Thank you all for your love and support! Matt - the school is yours!
ONCE A KNIGHT - ALWAYS A KNIGHT! - Do not forget, as I know I won't!!

PTSA President's Message
| It's hard
to believe that we're already in the middle of finals week. Many thanks to the Finals Fuel Team for
pulling off another great week of nutritious treats for our kids: Lynne Takeuchi, Janice Rich and Josephine Wang and our wonderful parent
volunteers!
As we get
ready to say good-bye to this school year, I'd like to thank Principal
Pat Lickiss for
his leadership and many years of service to the Las Lomas community. You will be greatly missed, Pat! I'd also like to thank Mark Uhrenholt, Ruth Steele and our phenomenal Las Lomas
teachers and staff for their tireless support and dedication to our students.
Many thanks
are also extended to our PTSA Officers for the countless hours of your
personal time that you have graciously given in support of our Las Lomas
students. Special thanks to Carolyn
Boord and Sherri
McGoff, our
eBolletin editors. Your attention
to detail and unwavering energy kept us all communicating often and well. Thank you outgoing Executive Board
Members: Treasurer Tami
Lonzo, Auditor Catherine
Gardner, Vice
President of Ways and Means Dana Carrigan, Vice President of Communications Toni
Steil-Bozym,
Vice President of Articulation Lorraine Souder and ASB President Ross Dautel. Toni, we thank you especially for your many years of service to
the PTSA, in your roles as President, Website Developer and Manager, and Vice
President of Communications. It's
been a pleasure working with you! Ross, as you head south to USC next fall,
we thank you for your graceful and effective leadership and participation on
the PTSA Board. It's been a joy to
watch your leadership light shine!
We wish you continued success in all that you set out to do!
As
the Class of 2010 graduates, so do their Senior Class Parent Advisors. I'd like to take this opportunity to
thank Terri Shamroukh, Terri Brohard, Barbara Kennick, Katie Maiuri, Jill
Quillin and Sheila Tokos for their hundreds of hours of volunteer
service over these past four years. They worked tirelessly in supporting
the Class of 2010 by helping with student activities and fundraising for this
very special time leading up to graduation.
And
finally, a heartfelt thank you is given to all of our Las Lomas Parent
Volunteers who
have given so much of themselves throughout this school year. Whether it was staffing a Measure G or
Measure A phone bank, donating food for a special event, chaperoning a school
dance, working a Tri-S shift, supporting a Homecoming event, helping with the
filing in the College and Career Center or providing a monetary contribution to
a worthy Las Lomas cause, to name just a few, we put out the call for help and
you always answered. We couldn't
do it without you!
The past
two years as your PTSA President have been incredibly fulfilling and I thank
the Las Lomas community for your support.
Please join me in welcoming incoming Co-President for 2010-11, Sherri
McGoff and Jill Buschini and the new PTSA Board!
Hope to see
you at the All-Knighter Preview on Thursday, June 10th from 6:00-9:00pm. Don't miss out on "The Road Trip". It's
a journey you won't want to miss!

LL Site Council
| The Las
Lomas Site Council held its last meeting of the 2009-10 school year on
June 1st.
The Site Council members include representative students, parents,
teachers,
classified staff, and our Principal. The Council is lead by Mark
Uhrenholt.
This year the Site Council continued to support tutoring in all subjects
as
well as to fund library materials, calculators and software for the Math
Department use, and materials for the English department in addition to
allocations
to other departments. It is the goal of the Site Council to support
programs
that will benefit all students and especially help improve the
achievement of
lower performing students. While funding for next year is still
uncertain the
Site Council will be reviewing requests for funds and suggestions for
ways to
improve the educational experience of all Las Lomas Students. Any ideas
can be
forwarded to Mark Uhrenholt.

| WCEF | All Together Now!
Our
Spring Campaign has officially begun. Thank you parents for "springing" into
action and donating to WCEF during our May donation days.
However,
we have a long way to go to reach our goal. With continued cuts from the state
and pending cuts from the city of Walnut Creek, it is imperative that all of
our families give something to ensure that WCEF is able to fund their
commitments for the 2010-2011 school year. We realize that donating is easy for
some families and nearly impossible for others. The most important thing is
that each family gives what they can.
As you're
planning your donation, remember that 2-payment, 4-payment and 10-month payment
plans are available. Make your 2010-11 tax deductible donation today using the online payment form
(Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express) or print a
donation form and mail with your check, made payable to WCEF, PO Box 186,
Walnut Creek, 94597.

LL Boosters Thank You
| On
behalf of the Las Lomas Boosters, I would like to thank all the supporters and
contributors to this year's fundraising efforts. We had our best year ever at
the crab feed with our high gross and our highest net EVER. We also increased
membership by over 10%.
In
addition to normal items we fund like balls, trainer, etc., we were able to fund
many worthwhile projects.
All
of this is not possible without YOUR help and generosity. Thank you
as well to the volunteers and the staff who devote their time and energy for
the benefit of the student athletes at Las Lomas. None of this is possible
without all of them. Again, on behalf of the Las Lomas Boosters...THANK YOU.
We also
have two wonderful ladies, Sharon Price & Kristen Rulifson retiring
from Boosters after many years of long service. Without them, much of what we
have done would have been impossible. If you know them, thank them for being so
giving of their time and energy. We will miss them very, very much.
